Who are we (organization)?
SZCZECIŃSKA SZKOŁA WYŻSZA COLLEGIUM BALTICUM founded in 2000 is continuously ranked as one of the best private universities in northern Poland. It is characterized by great human capital and huge development potential. School authorities have managed to build an institution that gives its students a solid education and thus a great start to their professional life. It is desired to provide young adults with knowledge comprising many fields so that they can receive an interdisciplinary education providing them with a better chance on the difficult labour market both in Poland and internationally. Current educational offer includes following faculties: educational science, national security, IT and at BA, MA levels as well as post-graduate studies in teaching methodology, business, management. A significant part of research work is the dissemination of the institution’s output and the exchange of experiences through conferences and seminars.
Main activities of your organization
We are one of the departments projects centre in Szczecinska Szkola Wyzsza Collegium Balticum (a private university from Szczecin in North-Western Poland). Our most important role is to promote our university in the international arena and to shape and support its image of a professional and reliable partner. Among our tasks one can find searching for new international projects and engaging our university in interesting and developing partnerships, preparation and submission of project applications, project coordination and quality assessment, dissemination of project activities and intellectual outputs, organizing conferences, training and international project meetings. Currently, we cooperate with more than 100 foreign institutions. They are experienced in such areas as education and vocational training, resocialisation of youth and prisoners, IT and new technologies, art and culture, history and cultural heritage protection, entrepreneurship, elderly care, help for disabled and people with special educational needs and many others. Our Centre is also active in the pole of non-formal education for children, youth, adults and seniors in different fields: ecology, entrepreneurship, art, active citizenship, social inclusion. Collegium Balticum has experience in EU projects in the field of art, HEI management, innovative language teaching, sustainable forest management, health, resocialization, cyberbullying, migration issues, social economy, sport, etc.
Experiences related to Project topic
We are experienced in educational projects aiming at youth social inclusion, adult education, migrant issues, involving modern technologies in education, promoting entrepreneurship and others. As our main field of research are educational sciences, we offer study courses titled: Social Work, Assistant to the Elderly and Support for Senior Citizens. Our graduates can also upskill their career attending courses of Social Gerontology and Help for Seniors. We employ professional educators who know the topic of old age diseases and also specialists in teaching and educating adults of every age. Additionally, in our institution, we organise lectures and courses for 65+ attendees as a part of, so-called, Third Age University. With the Governorship of Bursa as the coordinator, we developed ECAH - Eldercare at home (2015-1-TR01-KA204-022601) where one of the main outputs were guidebooks for informal carers and training programme for formal carers. The idea of the project was to give professional support to people who look after people in need out of institutional services. In the final stage, there was organised training with family members. During this individual meetings, informal carers were instructed how to look after ill, elderly or disabled family members more professionally and more safely. As we studied different needs and fields of interests of informal carers one of the chapters in the guide was on Alzheimer’s disease, also professional carers engaged in the training shared their knowledge of coping with this disease with anyone it referred to. The most important result from this project for us is the cooperation with our Municipal Family Support Centre. As the Centre is the most important institution engaged in helping all citizens in need it is a reliable source of information on people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in our town and the most trustworthy entity to rich their families. Additionally, in this Centre operates a very active, well-organised group of seniors. They participate in many events and are very interested in the cultural and social life of our town and would be a good startup for any piloting, education workshops, research etc. Many of our students and employees are very active in doing voluntary and professional work for NGOs, public bodies and other associations and institutions in the region that would easily become reliable associated partners in the project. We also keep in touch with carers, elderly and their families as well as adult educators.
Role and responsibilities in Project
SSW Collegium Balticum performed a quality assessment of the project in relation to indicators. All management issues such as working time cards, wallets etc. We develop only one result in this project - a guide for memory trainers, educators, and occupational therapists working with patients who are at risk or at risk of dementia. The guide is to contain exercises that can counteract or inhibit the development of the disease.
